I was really excited to see Splice. It got rave reviews. And the claim that this is one of the scairest movies this year. Unfortuneatly, its niether original, nor is it scary. I found myself going, when is this going to be scary. Oh maybe this is it? But the scary never came. What I got was a predictable mad scientist story. Frankensteins monster lives again. And while this story will always be timeless, and will always connect with us as a society. I believe there is a way for us to spin this, and update it. And sadly, this is not that incarnation. But Dren ( the creature) is beautiful and broken. And she is the only saving grace. Seeing her tranformation is truly a thing of beauty. And I would see it again just for her heartbreaking expressions. Overall I would say the movie is alright. Don't run out and see it! Netflix it, its worth a peek.

Kick Ass Movie... not so funny.
I went in to see Kick Ass with a certain idea of what I could expect. I thought I was in for a slap stick comedy about silly boys trying to be super heros. What I got was a extremely deep Dark Comedy. Yes it was funny. But it also was sad and gruesome, so you know I absolutely love this movie. It was honest and realistic. And held nothing back. It Kicks your ass emotionally. It takes you an a ride. So rush in and see Kick Ass. You will not be disappointed, and hey it might even make you feel something ( hard to be believe in this day and age.)

So screwed up! Just like I like it!
Yeah I think the above statement perfectly describes my feelings towards "Repo Men". It is a complete redo of the Genetic Opera. But made props need to be given for a redo as kick ass as this one. The fight scenes are poetic. And I have never seen a sexier surgery ever performed. I'll be dreaming of that for months. So I would so go, run now see this movie. And preferably with someone you can grab during the scenes that Jude Law makes so perfect. And be prepared for an ending that will totally screw your happily ever after mind out of the water. Love it!

The Crazies!
Now I know this will sound strange. But hey, its not the first time someone has stated the fact that I'm eccentric. "The Crazies" is one of the most romantic movies I've seen in a long time. Yes, I know how that sounds. But the fact is that Timothy Olyphants character is every womans dream. Throughout the movie him and hes co-star genre actor Joe Anderson prove what true men do in a time of crisis. I really adored this movie. My one compliant is that the woman in this film were totally overshadowed by the strong males. Not really much of a problem in my book. I would recommend this movie highly. Perfect for date night!

Finally... Repo the Genetic Opera!
So I have finally sat down and watched "Repo: The Genetic Opera". I know, where have a been right? It seems right up my alley. Being a Musical Horror movie and all. And although it can't hold a candle to Rocky Horror, or even Hedwig for that matter. I still did enjoy it. The songs were good, despite being a little over sung for my taste. What really makes this movie good is the beautiful sets and costume, and the plot. A great story, though sometimes over acted, lays beneath the glamour, glitter, and blood. I love the casting, and all the random cameos are awesome! Overall I am quite happy with the film. Not ecstatic, but happy.

Night of the Living Dorks
Oh how I love foreign cinema, especially foreign horror. And I'm really digging the European wave that's happening right now. So I am not surprised that I am so in love with "Night of the Living Dorks". This German film is everything a dork like me really wants in a movie. Humor, Teen angst, and oh yeah Zombies. I desperately hope that they never remake this movie, because I hold it so dear. But of course I'm sure they will. But seriously check out this film. Its about three friends who accidentally get turned into Zombies, making these three dorks well, instantly cooler. Cute story, though predictable, and a little cliche. Its one of those films that makes you smile. And that's always a good thing, even in the horror genre.
On a side note, Walking Dead Vol.2 is another thing I am totally hooked on at the moment. The first Volume was a bit slow, but it leads to a complicated web of character arcs that hook you in, so you have to buy the next one. Part Soap Opera, Part Zombie survival graphic novel. I can't wait to read the next one.

Deadline... more like dead wrong
Deadline... more like dead wrong
With all the names in this movie it should be a slam dunk. But ... how shall I put this, its deadly wrong. The story is never quite sure where its going, even though you know from the moment it began where it would lead. And the talent seems to be wasted with an obscure storyline, that actually has potential, but some how falls very very flat. Brittany Murphy, I'm truly sorry for your tragic death, and with controversy surrounding the ads for this movie, it will have an audience. But would I recommend it. Only on free cable, on a sick day, in middle of the day.
On a side note:
Walking Dead by Robert Kirkman is an amazing series so far. I have only read the first one. But I have been drawn into their soap opera with Zombies story line. And I am excited to read the next one. More on this series in future postings!
